Viking Voyagers is a choice-driven strategy resource management game created by Voyager Studios that follows a viking crew on their journey to reach a new home. Lead Olaf, Bjork, Ysoppa, and Erik on a grand voyage, encountering various events as you journey across the high seas.  Command your crew properly to get past whatever obstacles you encounter. With you in command, can the ship and their crew make it through the perilous journey?

  • Encounter-based adventure driven by your decisions.

  • Resources management systems: food, ship health, speed, and more.

  • A short experience meant to be replayable. Face all +20 encounters!

  • Four unique characters, each with their own personality, mood, and stats that change over the course of the game. Try to keep everyone alive!

Production Overview

Viking Voyagers was my team’s first university capstone game at Miami University, started with the pitch “Oregon Trail but vikings.”

This was a 3-month project. I spent the first half of the project as a designer, working to create the core systems that the game uses such as the character stats system and the food mechanics. This was a process in which I worked alongside two other team members to brainstorm ideas.

Once all the core mechanics had been ironed out, I started work as an artist, drawing most of the art seen in the game such as the event scenes, backgrounds, ship, characters, and logo.

Beyond art and design, I also worked as a co project manager: managing the Trello board, helping the head project manager with any communication issues, and keeping everyone motivated.

In the end, we were the only group in our capstone to come out with a finished, playable product. We took a lot of our experiences with us into our second capstone game, Chrono Knight.
