A FOREST OF NOBLES AND DRAGONS

"Claim back a forest of emerald trees and forgotten ruins from cunning nobles and devious predator dragons."

Emerald Groves is a 44-page system-neutral sandbox campaign setting centered around a single region: The Emerald Groves. The wode is a varied oak forest of beauty, wonder, magic, and dragons that cover ruins of old. Named for the emerald trees of the northern woods, the vast forested region has grown over the ruins of the ancient House Keleria, a long-dead noble house of brave Emerald Knights and devout followers of the goddess Feyla, the Emerald Enchantress. The Emerald Groves lie at a precarious point. Even without the looming scourge of the Red Dynasty's civil war, the groves are under threat by cunning nobles and devious predator dragons who seek to take the region for themselves.

  • Open-World Sandbox: Journey through a vibrant forest of ancient ruins and magics, discovering lost secrets and ancient relics.

  • Rise to Nobility: Explore a stories land of knights and castles, and stake your claim as a new noble house with a mightly stronghold.

  • Campaign of Choices: Reform the lost Emerald Knights, slay Predator Dragons, train in the ways of the samurai, and manage the threat of civil war.

  • Arthurian World: Delve into the history and lore of Calibourne, a world greatly inspired by Arthurian Legend.

Emerald Groves contains:

  • A detailed overview of how to run an Emerald Groves campaign as an open-world sandbox

A rundown of the Red Dynasty's noble houses and their potential role in any campaign

A guide to every region of the Emerald Groves, including details on locations, history, adventures, and more

Lore for the Arthurian Legend-inspired world of Calibourne, the eastern-inspired Red Dynasty, and the nature-based Emerald Groves

Production Overview

Emerald Groves Campaign Setting was a self-directed solo project that entered official development as part of one of my capstone writing classes at university. As I wrote the campaign setting I ran it for my own Pathfinder 1e group, which led to rapid prototyping and evolution.

This was my first official purchasable product ever released, and was a good lesson on a number of things, most importantly burnout and scope creep. It was also a lesson in time management and to always consider the worst case senario.
