Hi I’m Deckard Manne, a writer, game & narrative designer. I’m also somewhat of a generalist, with experience in copy editing, layout design, generative art, pixel art, 3D modeling, coding, and project management.

I’ve been game designing forever. I spent my childhood designing my own original board games, building everything from the game boards to rules and gameplay.

I’ve spent the last eight years running homebrew TTRPG games for clubs and friends. I’ve written thousands of pages of narratives, characters bios, encounters, system design, and much more. Game mastering has driven my love of storytelling and game design, which I’ve since been able to use across dozens of creative projects.

Me at GDC!

In terms of who I am outside of writing and design, I love all sorts of media, from fantasy books like Wheel of Time, TTRPGs like Ten Candles and Pathfinder, board games like Unearth and Ticket to Ride, and collectable card games like Magic: The Gathering.

In terms of video games, I have a love for games that combine narrative with mechanics, such as Return of the Obra Dinn, Disco Elysium, Inscryption, Dragon Age Inquisition, VA11-HALL-A, and most recently, Outer Wilds. I like games where story keeps me hooked until the credits roll.

In addition to gaming I love movies about other worlds, from fantasy films like Lord of the Rings to sci-fi movies like Blade Runner. I also play hockey, rollerblade, played percussion through high school, shoot archery, and have a strong interest in steam trains and Arthurian Legend.
